Ansys simulation software
also: Ansys Mechanical · Ansys Fluent · HFSS
A family of engineering simulation tools for structural FEA, fluid dynamics, electromagnetics, and more, used for high-fidelity analysis.
Ansys offers simulation tools across physics: Mechanical for structural and thermal FEA, Fluent and CFX for fluid dynamics, HFSS for high-frequency electromagnetics such as antennas, and others for electronics reliability and optics. Large engineering organizations and consultancies use them for detailed analysis. Ansys is now part of Synopsys.
Where it bites: license cost, and the expertise needed to mesh, set boundary conditions, and validate results. A simulation that hasn't been correlated with a physical test can be confidently wrong.
Outside help is worth it for structural and thermal checks of enclosures and mounts, cooling and airflow studies, antenna simulation, and correlating models with test data.
Common requests
- Structural and thermal FEA
- CFD for cooling and airflow
- Antenna and electromagnetic simulation
- Correlating simulation with test data
Founder takeaway
Buy simulation as answers to specific design questions, and insist on at least one physical test to validate the model.
